West Wear was founded on March 1, 2024, after attending a nudist event in Brooklyn, NY. It was the first time I had to be fully nude for the entire event, as opposed to eventually taking off my shirt or handing my pants over to the coat check. Exposing it all, I had never felt so liberated. My ass jiggling, my breasts bouncing, and my belly shaking—it was pure freedom. As a fat, Black gay man, that feeling was exhilarating. As the event came to a close and I put my clothes back on, I realized I wanted to feel that uninhibited all the time. I wanted to feel like a "Dark Room Diva," whether I was in those spaces or out in the world, and I wanted everyone to know it. Thus, I created West Wear for those of us who love that rush. The fashion industry has always treated size inclusion as an afterthought: a token 2X on the rack, a "plus size" section tucked in the back. So I built something different from the ground up — every cut, every style, every drop available from S-3XL with no compromises on design, quality, or fit. I plan to bring these same designs and more into the 4X and 5X ranges, ultimately, as the brand scales so will our size options.
